Aeration is performed in one of two ways: spike aeration where soil is punctured or slit, or core aeration where core segments are removed. Spike aeration can solve surface drainage issues and provide deep aeration to turf surfaces. Core aeration can reduce turf compaction and thatch problems. Aeration generally improves the uptake of nutrients and water by the exposing the grass seed directly to the soil.
A regular high quality programme of aeration and decompaction is an integral part of good turf management and is applicable to bowling greens, golf greens, football and rugby pitches or cricket wickets. ARC Ground Care have a number of machines which will meet your aeration needs:
